Your immune system can save your life:
Strong immune systems and good health, according to medical authorities, give people a chance of fighting off killer biological agents. Biological agents like any other virus type agent prey on the elderly, those individuals with weakened and compromised immune systems. Never before in your life, have you needed a strong immune system, more than during this war against terrorism.

The following represents a rather robust approach in building a healthy immune system. The strongest piece of advice I can give you is to do something. You may not have the will to go for the gold, as in building a powerful virus killing immune system, but any portion of the following protocol is far better than doing nothing.

When it comes to taking care of the only body we have, quality not quantity should be of utmost importance. Unfortunately a very large percentage of the nutritional supplements market produces utterly inferior products. They should be in shame for leading suckers like you and I into buying their products as a result of fancy packaging etc.. The crime is we think we are improving our health. This assumption is a figment of our imagination and hope. My very best advise is to buy only the finest quality preferably pharmaceutical grade supplements when possible.

Another caution is capsules vs tablets. The latter are a hard substance and are very difficult for our systems to breakdown and digest. By and large they are nearly worthless. Capsules nearly 100% of the time, provide the best chance for absorbing and assimilating the intended nutrients. Quality of the content of the capsule is the final factor.

Last comment is: Always read the instructions and cautions and follow the suggested dosage. Unless of course you consult with a natural practitioner

Fasting boosts our immune systems and promotes health:
Of all the suggestions I can pass along, fasting should be the number one recommendation. A tired, toxic laden, bloated body is probably gonna get sick and die, when the stuff hits the fan.

Fasting is key, because it is so effective in detoxifying your body, giving your organs a rest, and enhancing your natural healing powers. By fasting three days a month, during the war on terrorism, during a Pandemic or any other time when your health is at risk, will help rebuild your immune system and help fight off disease and illness. The following comments are meant to introduce you to the fasting process. You ought to consult in a medical professional prior to fasting, in the event there are potential complications, which you need to be aware of.

Length of Fasts: Three to five day fasts are recommended every month or so for immune system boosting within this publication. These periods of time can easily managed by a person in normal health. However, a ten [10] day to [14 day] fast is significantly more therapeutic, reference regaining optimum health and immune response capabilities. This is truly a revitalization, restoration and detoxification fast, in which your body emerges truly ready to survive with vastly greater chances of success, than prior to the fast.

How often: As I stated, if you plan on doing three day fasts, then try to do them once a month. You will be rewarded. If you can do a ten day fast, then the length of time between fasts is dependent on variables such as degree of stress you system is under. Let's make it easy. When the stuff looks like it's gonna hit the fan soon, I will begin my fasting for survival. I will do a ten day fast every three to four months, if circumstances allow. [Update: As of September 2005, I am in a survival mode.]

Professional Medical Support: Of course I am not suggesting, that a person who has never fasted, to just jump right in and start their first fast. Although fasting has been practiced since pre-biblical times, a first fast would give you the peace of mind and support, if a medical practitioner monitored the process. Once you gain a comfort level and your practitioner gives you the green light, then fast often, as your body will reward you with good health and perhaps a much longer life than otherwise. Now for the negative part. If you think your MD down the street will smilingly say "great idea", wrong, that probably won't happen. After all, healthy people seldom need medical attention. Ask someone at the health shop for names of practitioners to call.

OK, so you are worried about the food cravings. Not to worry, typically they go away after the third day. So if you do a three day fast, you will be hungry the whole time. Let me remind you. If you really want to build a optimum immune system and live through a 1918 level Pandemic, than I would heartily recommend a ten [10] day fast at a minimum.

Preparing for a Fast: In moderation, eat only raw foods two days before a fast.

Night Before Fast: Take a strong dose of Metamucil, which is a high fiber product readily available. It will help during the early stages in cleaning out your large intestine.

Begin Your Fast: Drink every day half your body weight in ounces of genuine spring water or reverse osmosis filtered water; 150 pounds = drink 75 ounces of water a day.

Using raw juices: Raw juices will be of great benefit. Just add pure juices to your water at a rate that appeals to you. Try 25% juice, because if you don't take an equivalent of 12 oz of juice a day, you're cheating yourself. Do not drink orange or tomato juice on a fast. The best juices are fresh lemon, cabbage, beet, carrot, celery, grape, apple, and green drinks made from leafy green vegetables [organic is highly recommended]. Try not to buy the stuff at the health food store, the use of a good quality juicer would be invaluable here. Forget the cost, we are talking about becoming healthier, by detoxifying and restoring your bodies immune system. Nutrients from juices will greatly enhance the process.

Enemas: Once a day enemas are an absolute must to assist the body in its cleansing and detoxifying effort. One pint to one quart of lukewarm distilled water is sufficient. Now, now, now, you will take the enemas and you will like it, won't you?

Break your fast gently and slowly: For a three day fast, eat very lightly the first day, lightly steamed organic veggies in their broth. After the third meal begin adding whole grain brown rice for three more meals. For a ten day fast double the timing of the cycle.

Your local bookstore has tons of books on fasting. I would recommend you visit a store and purchase one for your emergency supplies.

Juicing boosts our immune systems and promotes health:
An intake of raw and preferably organic juices from fruits and veggies each day has been reported time and time again by folks everywhere, to have given them far better health than without juicing. We're not talking about a gallon my friends. We're talking about a couple of six ounce glasses a day. It's amazing! Of course more than 12 ounces a day is more amazing, but most folks just can't make that amount of juice every week.

Organic fruit and veggie juice contains an enormous amount of vital nutrients, which will help your body stay in optimum health year after year. Often, we hear stories of how sick Aunty Joan was, and then her sister arrived and began making fresh juice every day and soon Joan was well again. Juicing is fantastic, get yourself a booklet and "just do it". Everyday!

I keep suggesting organic veggies and fruit. In case you are wondering why, I'll tell you. For decades farm land in most parts of the world have been somewhat depleted of minerals and trace minerals. It happened due to farmers not rotating stock year to year and by not putting back into the earth vital organic material to decompose. Organic waste material yields more minerals as it decomposes. Over time the vital minerals our body needs were no more. Oh yes, the farmers can go a crop, robust as well. They do so with the help of expensive oil based fertilizers, which make things grow, yet without ample nutrient value. BTW, these oil based fertilizers are sky rocketing in cost. What's that gonna do to the cost of food, not to mention transportation costs from farm to market? Organic farmers see to it, that their soil is replenished each year with organic waste material.

Lemon with Water boosts our immune systems and promotes health:
Lemon reduces the acidity of the human system. An acidic body enables and encourages chronic illnesses and enhances the growth of cancer. An alkaline body inhibits the growth of cancer cells as well as many chronic diseases, by providing tissue not very friendly and suitable for replication and growth for the disease.

Lemon [fresh, not processed] added to water, makes the water more slippery and the body is more able to process and utilize better.

Drinking 10 glasses of water daily with fresh squeezed lemon juice added, helps the body detoxify, while it also becomes more alkaline.

A body with a proper balance of acidity and alkalinity [PH] is generally a healthy body.

The following factors are also important in boosting your immune system:

  • Balanced diet: One rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

  • Positive attitude:

  • Deep sleep: Induces the release of many immune components. Many people have sleep apnea and do not benefit from a deep sleep. They may awaken hundreds of times a night and not remember it. If you awaken tired look into this.
  • Meditation: A simple 5 to 10 minute controlled meditation, a couple of time a day is effective. It reduces stress, which is known to significantly deplete immune response.
  • Staying lean: Obesity decreases immune status considerably and overweight people have more infections than their slimmer counterparts.

Immune System Suppressers

Caffeine and Sugar:
Both of these substances can markedly suppress your immune functions. The sugar in a can of soda can suppress your immune function by 50% for over 5 hours! It does this by elevating insulin levels and blocking Vitamin C receptors, among other things.

Alcohol:
The more alcohol consumed, the more immune depression. That sure is easy to understand.

Cholesterol and triglycerides:
When at high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides suppress your immune function by inhibiting the ability of white blood cells to divide, move to an infection site or do their job when they get there. L-Carnitine reverses this problem.

Processed foods
Processed foods are one of the most egregious inhibitors of our body's natural ability to rebuild and repair itself. Processed foods are those foods, which have been altered by intent or inadvertently via commercial processing, which diminishes and often destroys nutrient value; Hence the phrase, "empty calories". Everything in a package will contain devitalized nutrients as well as large amounts of sugar. Sugar as we indicated, depletes our immune system. It is a well known, yet very unpopular fact. Natural practitioners routinely challenge their patients to give up sugar in it's entirety. Those who are self-determined, report incredible results in their physical and mental well-being, often within weeks.

Attend to the health needs of each family member

Medication It is a good idea to address medication for family members and pets with your primary care physician and vet. A multiple month stockpile of medication can be very expensive. Suppose though, somewhere down the road, things get real bad. Chances are your local pharmacy may not be able to guarantee a reliable supply of drugs. What would you do if you ran out? Many people are stockpiling their prescription drugs for six months. They will continue to get refills each month as usual. Each month they merely rotate their stock; new drugs always go to the back.

What about those over-the-counter medicines? Consider stock piling now, while you still can.

First aid kits: Every home has one, but is it going to be adequate? Once again, if normal services are not available, each of us will have to doctor our own wounds and those of the family. Having a strong immune system and good health are important, yet a good quality wilderness first aid kit is also important.
